Brunner, county elections chiefs spar over changes

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner is at odds with the association representing county elections officials over a Senate bill with proposed elections changes, and the rift showed in a committee hearing last week.

Marilyn Jacobcik, president of the Ohio Association of Election Officials, testified in favor of Senate Bill 8. Although Brunner is not formally supporting or opposing the bill, she offered a litany of criticisms and sparred with some GOP committee members during her testimony.

Brunner suggested Jacobsik's endorsement is not a fair representation of the views of the association members.

That didn't sit well with the association; it says that its board of trustees and legislative committee consist of more than 50 members and that input on the bill was solicited from all 88 bipartisan county boards of elections.
